Phosphorus supports vigorous root growth, while nitrogen fuels top growth and greening. Newly over seeded lawns need consistent moisture. The seed and soil must remain moist for the best germination. Frequent, light waterings two to three times a day for the first five days is recommended; water more heavily every other day for the next five days; then water as needed to prevent any wilting. This will encourage deep, healthy roots for your new seedlings, along with your current existing lawn.
